At the end of season 92/93 the Westmorland League expanded to four leagues from three.The leagues were made smaller & the bottom third of div2 went into the third division,Ibis were top of the bottom third & were relegated,I think this was our lowest point.On the last game of the 95/96 season we needed to beat Ambleside Res to get promotion back to div2.We won 4-3,I think this was a turning point for Ibis which we have been able to build on.The team was,Back Row..M(F)Dixon,B Armstrong,A Lishman,A Clarke,A Wills,M Hine,M Hawker,G Carradice,P Atkinson. Ginner(Peter Hine)& Steve Hawes seem to have moved to get a better shot of the old Laundry chimney in this 1963/64 photo of Ibis..Manager Billy Peters always seemed to be wearing his flat hat.The team was Back Row LtoR T Swainbank,B Woodburn,C Dobson,A Blenkharn,P Hine,S Hawes,B Peters,Unknown?.Front Row..C Rigg,T Fleming,R Little,J Johnston.I remember Steve Hawes,from when I started in 1971 as a tough tackling no nonsense player,he won the Junior Cup with Ibis in 1962 & 1972. |
